New favorite restaurant
At the risk of blowing the cover on the coziest restaurant this side of the Gowanus, here’s a tribute to Black Mountain Wine House. Tonight will be the third Saturday in a row that I’m there for dinner. Last week, we were recognized and given two free glasses of wine for allowing a party of five to be seated before our two, even though we had arrived first. The menu is on the lighter side: salads, charcuterie and cheese. And if you’re an oyster person, they sell those too. The place is teensy, you can see the kitchen action from your table and go up to all the cheeses before selecting the one to accompany the tasty wine selections. As far as I can tell, there isn’t a sign, and its off the beaten path location makes it a nice get away from the city folk who happen into the neighborhood on weekends (i.e. the Manhattanites who decide to take a chance on Brooklyn now and again). Eating at Black Mountain makes me want to stay in this neighborhood forever. Everyone, the diners, the staff, all seem so content to be there. Did I mention it has a wood fire place?
